Software Quality Group Meeting Meetings of the Software Quality Group are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at the facilities of Sun Microsystems, Burlington (Driving directions below). MEETING DAY & DATE: Wednesday, Apr. 14, 2004 TIME: 6:00 PM Networking, 6:30 PM Meeting HEADLINE: Fast Track Your CMM Initiative: Obtaining Level 3 in 15 Months SPEAKER: Michael Cunnane MORE INFO: John Pustaver, 978-443-4254, pustaver@ieee.org LOCATION: Sun Microsystems, Burlington (Driving directions below) DESCRIPTION: This presentation examines a recent client case study and describes how a leading financial services software developer took an experienced-based approach for moving from CMM Level 1 to Level 3 in approximately 15 months. As a result, they realized significant savings in the first six months after achieving Level 3 of the Software Engineering Institute's Capability Maturity Model® (CMM®). The session will review the key elements for success in "fast tracking" an organization from CMM Level 1 to Level 3 in a shortened timeframe and how to get started. As part of the implementation strategy it was decided to develop CMM Level 2 and Level 3 Key Process Areas together. The advantages and disadvantages of combining of doing this will be discussed. In addition, helpful hints on reducing time-consuming activities will be presented. This case study also demonstrates how effective a performance baseline measurement study was in establishing the ROI benefits for going to CMM Level 3. We will examine how the baseline was developed and how it was used to make the case to move forward with the software process improvement initiative.
