From: "Amy L. Carrier" Subject: TECH CORPS Date: Wednesday, August 20, 2003 10:56 AM Hello, I manage a non-profit education-technology initiative that pairs technology-savvy volunteers with k-12 schools in Boston. The organization, TECH CORPS (www.techcorps.org), is a national non-profit (501c3) volunteer-based corporation with chapters in over 25 states. This fall, we have over 20 projects planned in fifteen schools in Boston and I am actively recruiting volunteers to support those projects. Our volunteers typically dedicate 4-8 hours per month depending on their preference to support projects such as developing school newsletters, building school websites, assisting in robotics labs, archiving student work, developing assessment tools, training teachers, developing web databases, and much more. I am writing to ask if you, as a technology-based forum, would be willing to post the opportunity to volunteer for TECH CORPS. We have had exposure through some wonderful forums, but are always in search of more volunteers (it will take fifty volunteers to fill all of the projects this fall), and bugc.org targets just the type of professionals we are looking for. I will include some text below, along with our latest press alert as an attachment. I thank you in advance for your assistance and promotion of our efforts. Thank you, Amy L. INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING? WE NEED YOUR HELP. TECH CORPS (www.techcorps.org), a national volunteer-based education technology non-profit organization, is assisting Boston Public Schools with their technology needs. We are currently recruiting technology-skilled volunteers who work in IT and are skilled in everything from web development, to tech support, HTML to Robotics, database to software development and training. By sharing your technology expertise just a few hours a month, you can help make technology make a difference for a Boston school - and help to better prepare Boston's students for a successful future in the digital workforce. As a TECH CORPS volunteer, you’ll be engaged in a technology project that fits your interests and schedule. Whether you’re helping to build a school's website; showing teachers how to get the most out of their laptops, assisting in a Robotics class or helping the administration build a database, you’ll know you’re truly making a difference! Volunteer projects will begin in 15 Boston schools in September 2003 and a volunteer orientation will be held in early September. If you are interested, or to learn more, call Amy Carrier at 978.897.0281, email carrier@techcorps.org, or sign up today at www.techcorps.org/registry. *****************************************************************
