Ida, Wed March 19 Date: Monday, March 03, 2003 7:54 AM SIGGRAPH/BOSTON The Future of Real-time 3D Graphics for the Desktop Ron Fosner Wednesday, March 19, 2003 Networking Time at 6:30pm Presentation Starts at 7pm Mount Ida College Carlson Auditorium 777 Dedham St. Newton Centre, MA 02159 Ron will discuss recent advances in the graphics architecture of commodity 3D graphics cards and what the future may hold for 3D graphics on the desktop. He'll discuss the traditional 3D graphics pipeline that has been in use for the last 20 years, what's wrong with it and why graphics card companies are falling over themselves in trying to become the most programmable. He'll discuss some of the new shading languages that have made an appearance and give some demonstrations of how these can be used to change the way computer graphics can be created. He'll show some photo realistic rendering as well as some recent non-photo realistic (NPR) examples. About the Speaker Ron Fosner is a 3D graphics consultant, author, and lecturer. He's written a best-selling book on OpenGL graphics and has recently published a book on shader programming. He's looking forward to attending his 14th Siggraph this year.
