Abstract: Non-CMM Software Process Improvement For many people, software process improvement is synonymous with the Capability Maturity Model (CMM). In fact, the CMM is not the only way to improve one's software process. In this interactive presentation, Robin Goldsmith describes methods that have been found effective for improving all types of processes, including software. We start by understanding our REAL software process, which often differs considerably from what we presume is the way we develop and support software. Rather than blindly trying every new technique for its own sake, we analyze what does and does not currently work for us; and then we make only the specific improvements our own situation needs. That's true agility-tempered by effectiveness. * Describe how to distinguish our REAL software processes from presumed ones. * Show ways to measure and analyze how the process affects our software results. * Suggest how to make just the improvements which will be most meaningful.
