Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2003 21:32:45 -0400 (EDT) From: Colin Godfrey Subject: SIGGRAPH/Boston at MERL, Wed. June 25. At the June 25th meeting... SIGGRAPH Paper Presentations Preview At Mitsubishi Electronics Research Laboratory 201 Broadway Cambridge, MA 02139 Three groups of authors will be presenting their accepted 2003 SIGGRAPH technical paper presentations. Come see the papers presented in a cozy atmosphere at MERL in lovely Kendall Square. Meet the authors and get psyched for San Diego. Here is a quick overview of the lineup: _________________________________________________________________________ A Data-driven Reflectance Model Matusik, W., H. Pfister, M. Brand, and L McMillan A generative model for isotropic bidirectional reflectance distribution functions (BRDFs) based on acquired reflectance data. Instead of using analytical reflectance models, each BRDF is represented as a dense set of measurements. _________________________________________________________________________ Non-Iterative, Feature-Preserving Mesh Smoothing Thouis R. Jones, Fredo Durand, Mathieu Desbrun With the increasing use of geometry scanners to create 3D models, there is a rising need for fast and robust mesh smoothing to remove inevitable noise in the measurements. This paper proposes a radical approach, based on robust statistics and local first-order predictors of the surface. The robustness of this technique's local estimates allow for non-iterative feature-preserving filtering _________________________________________________________________________ iLamps: Geometrically Aware and Self-Configuring Projectors Ramesh Raskar, Jeroen van Baar, Paul Beardsley, Thomas Willwacher, Srinivas Rao, Cliff Forlines Projectors are currently undergoing a transformation as they evolve from static output devices to portable, environment-aware, communicating systems. This paper examines geometrical issues for enhanced projectors, relating to customized projection for different shapes of display surface, object augmentation, and co-operation between multiple units. _________________________________________________________________________ Wednesday, June 25, 2003 Networking Time at 6:30pm Presentations Start at 7pm MERL 201 Broadway Cambridge, MA 02139 8th floor http://www.merl.com/company/contact.html Directions from the Mass Pike (I-90): I-90 East (Portions toll) Take Exit 18 towards ALLSTON/CAMBRIDGE Merge onto CAMBRIDGE STREET Cambridge Street becomes RIVER STREET BRIDGE River Street Bridge becomes RIVER STREET 0.6 miles Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto WESTERN AVENUE Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto MAGAZINE STREET Magazine Street becomes PROSPECT STREET 0.3 miles Turn RIGHT onto BROADWAY 0.5 miles 201 Broadway is at the intersection of Broadway and PORTLAND Directions from the MBTA (Subway): Take the Red Line to Kendall Square / MIT Walk through the lobby of the Marriot Hotel to Broadway Turn left and walk North on Broadway 201 Broadway is at the intersection of Broadway and PORTLAND (You will need to cross the street.)
