Date: Thu, 10 Oct 2002 09:34:18 -0400 From: Dan Jacobs Subject: WebTech Tues 10/15 7pm - WebSphere V5 Hi everyone, This month's WebTech meeting will be next Tuesday, October 15, 7pm to 9pm, at the IBM SPC in Waltham. Details and directions will be available at http://www.acm.org/chapters/webtech. This month's presentation will be given by our own Jeff Miller from IBM, on "What's new in WebSphere." IBM has made lots of improvements to the WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere Studio that are about to be released in version 5. This will be a very informative and lively presentation by one of WebTech's earliest members. I hope to see you there! -- Dan Jacobs, WebTech Chairman Abstract: IBM WebSphere Application Server V5 is about to ship, and there are many changes and new features compared to V4. In this presentation we'll start by reviewing what "WebSphere" is and then dig into the Application Server. We'll cover its new packaging, features, optimizations, and extensions, and contrast some of those with V4. Next, one of the best IDEs for developing applications for WebSphere and other application servers is WebSphere Studio. We'll take a look at how we can use WebSphere Studio V5 to build, test and deploy an application to WebSphere Application Server. Finally we'll explore the Application Server GUI, and then install, configure, and run the application. It should be noted that since the V5 versions of WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere Studio have not shipped yet, the presentation will cover the current plan for them and the demo will be of the betas. The actual shipping products may differ slightly. Bio: Jeff Miller is an e-business Architect with IBM Developer Relations Technical Consulting.
