Date: Tue, 1 Oct 2002 00:00:31 -0400 From: Eric Pierce Subject: BVRG Is Back! Oct. 2003 Meeting on 3D GIS with Terry Martin of ESRI Boston _______________________________________________________________________ BOSTON VIRTUAL REALITY GROUP 3-D technology and Geographic Information Systems. WITH Terry Martin of ESRI Boston http://www.esri.com/ 100 Conifer Hill Drive, Suite 305 Danvers, MA Thursday, October 10, 2002 7:00 PM _______________________________________________________________________ In the past 3D was simply a tool for visualizing a real or imagined scenario. The new era of 3-D technology marries visualization with the strengths of the Geographic Information System. This allows users to not ony visualize situations but to query their surroundings through the database connections of the GIS. The dawning era of real time interactive GIS promises the strengths of 3D visualization coupled with GIS dynamically enabled for tracking, routing, and editing simultaneously for all users of the system. The implications of this technology in virtually every field from emergency response, to utility management, transportation, and theatre battlefield management are impressive. Terry's presentation will highlight current and coming ESRI 3D GIS technology and its applications. The presentation will focus on the value added features of geospatially enabling 3D through GIS and the options for loosely coupled geoprocessing and editing to enable real time interactive 3D GIS and the implications of this technolgy for various industry segments. Terry is currently leading ESRI support for US Air Force implementation of GeoBase and GeoReach, Enterprise management for facilities and emvironmental programs at home and abroad for the US Air Force. The group's purpose is to explore the social implications and technical issues that arise from building such systems. Our mission is to provide a forum for bring together industry experts, academic and commercial researchers, artists, hackers and enthusiasts/potential users. If you have a general interest, a passion for this domain or want to code, paint and build such systems, think BVRG. The BVRG was originally established in 1992 as the Boston Computer Society's Virtual Reality Group. Aside from many speakers over the years, the group has built several fully immersive virtual environments for SIGGRAPH dating back to 1993. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= To subscribe to the boston-vr-announce e-mail announcement distribution list, send the following line in the body of an e-mail message to majordomo@world.std.com: subscribe boston-vr-announce To unsubscribe yourself from this list send the following: unsubscribe boston-vr-announc
