Date: Tue, 12 Nov 2002 14:18:22 -0600 From: Raheel Retiwalla Subject: SQL Server User group for November Thank you everyone for joining us last meeting. After looking at the response last month as well as some suggestions here are the topics for this week's user group meeting. (NEW MEETING TIME) 6p.m. - 7p.m. Intro to Data Warehousing - Raheel Retiwalla In this session we will explore the concepts of STAR Schemas, data marts, reporting environments versus relational environments. In the following months we will build this presentation to an Intro to OLAP and Intro to MDX presentation which will build these concepts to create dimensional databases as well as data mining. Another area where I have heard a lot of interest is database change management. Greg Robidoux from Edgewood Solutions LLC will talk to us about Change Management for SQL Server Establishing Change Management for your SQL Servers is no easy task without a formalized process. You not only have to coordinate with multiple departments, but also need to be able to rollback the environment in case the new code is detrimental. Needless to say, without a formal process coordination and fire fighting can quickly become time consuming. It's not worth letting untested code wreak havoc in your production environments when simple Change Management Solutions can be implemented. We will help formalize and streamline your process from Development, Test and Production environments by focusing on essential people, processes and technology to successfully implement a SQL Server Change Management solution. See you all on Thursday!! Raheel ^@
