Date: Tue, 05 Mar 2002 17:50:29 -0500 From: David C. Fox Subject: March 12 meeting, 7:30pm, MIT 2-143 Boston Voice Users will present its monthly meeting: Kimberly Patch will speak on Efficient Command and Control Tuesday, March 12, 2002 MIT, Room 2-143 (directions below) Radically changing the way you communicate with a computer means changing the way you think about that communication. I'll talk about a couple of basic strategies that can drastically speed up the way you command and control your computer using voice. You can apply the strategies whether or not you use the professional version of NaturallySpeaking that allows you to use custom macros, but the macro capability will allow you to increase your gains. I'll demonstrate some ways of working with speech recognition programs, and show several sets of macros that speed things up, including mouse-moving macros that let you place and click the mouse then perform another action like selecting, cutting or pasting, all in one command. Kimberly Patch is a journalist who has been using speech recognition since 1994. Her NaturallySpeaking macros can be found at www.scriven.com. She and her partner Eric Smalley have sped up the production of Technology Research News, an online news service, using voice commands in programs like Word, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, CuteHTML, Eudora, Netscape and Internet Explorer. David Fox -------------------------------------------- Directions to room: Go in the main door of MIT, at 77 Mass. Ave. Go straight down the Infinite Corridor for as long as you can. When forced to turn, go right. You'll pass one intersection decorated with murals of jungle animals, with a hallway to library on your left, and stairs on your right. 2-143 is further along. For wheelchair access: use the door at 33 Mass Ave, toward the River from the main door. There's a lift there. The Boston Voice Users meets at MIT from 7:30 p.m. until approximately 9:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. Please feel free to cross-post this message. _______________________________________________ Boston-voice-users maillist - Boston-voice-users@harvee.billerica.ma.us http://harvee.billerica.ma.us/mailman/listinfo/boston-voice-users
