Date: Fri, 25 Jan 2002 22:46:15 -0800 (PST) From: NEJUG President Subject: Important Meeting Announcement This email is going out to all nejug members. *** Important Announcement *** Registration for the February 7th Web Services meeting will be closing on Tuesday, February 5th at 12:00 noon to allow JPM Chase enough time to preprint access badges for all registered members. Due to security at JPM Chase, your name must appear on the registration list, and you must have a preprinted access badge to enter. If you plan on attending and have not yet registered, please do so by going to the web site at http://www.nejug.org/next.htm. We currently have well over 200 members registered, but since the auditorium holds 500 people, we still have plenty of room. This is a reminder that the next meeting will be held on February 7th at the JPM Chase Auditorium at the Cross Point Building. Detailed directions can be found on the web site at http://www.nejug.org/directions_chase.htm A slight change: Iain Armstrong will not be able to make it out, but in his place Hugh Grant, CTO of Cape Clear Software, will be talking to us about applying web services, in particular how to expose existing Java components as web services without modifying the source code. Also, Steven Kolak from Empirix will start the meeting by talking to us about EJB performance and scalability testing. The doors will open at 5:45 for free pizza and water, but the meeting will not start until 6:30. This will allow people extra travel time, and also give members a chance to network and talk prior to the meeting. Thanks again to JPM Chase, and specifically Nejug member Melissa Manoogian, for supplying this great room for the meeting! I contacted the folks at JavaOne, and have arranged for Nejug members to get a discount for the JavaOne registration! I will send out the priority codes and discount details in a seperate email Monday night. Also, a reminder that Jim Rand will be speaking about installing, configuring, and using JBoss at the next MaineJUG meeting held in Scarborough, Maine on Wednesday, January 30th. Please see their web site at http://www.mainejug.org for directions and more details about the meeting. I am certainly planning on going - hope to see you there! If you are thinking of attending the meeting, please shoot Donna an email letting her know you are interested in attending at donna@nejug.org. In other news, Nejug member Ernie Varitimos has started a new process for building a knowledge base and building a bridge within the Java community between project Stakeholders and Java Experts. Ernie is looking for a few good "JavaChiefs" to help build a knowledge base. JavaChiefs.com is a knowledge base, a community driven site, a place to showcase your expertise, and finally a bridge between project stakeholders and Java experts. If you are interested in participating or have any questions regarding Ernie's ideas, please see http://javachief.com, or feel free to contact Ernie directly at erniev@javachief.com or by phone at 781-784-3900. Remember, the meetings, membership, pizza, and water are all free. I hope to see you at the meeting!
