From: "Boston Network Users Group" Subject: Boston: VPN and Firewall Seminar on Feb 2 Date: Tuesday, January 15, 2002 3:40 PM The following may be of interest to computer users who are concerned with the security of their own systems or who use VPN techniques to connect to office computers from their homes. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the Boston Network Users Group ("BNUG") and the fifth year that the organization has presented a nominally-priced full-day training workshop on a topic of current interest. This year's seminar will look at Virtual Private Networks (VPN) and Firewalls. It will be held on Saturday, February 2 from 8:30AM to 4:00PM. This is NOT a commercial presentation. The instructor is a professional who has been "volunteered" to us from the engineering department of a well-known high-tech company involved in the design and implementation of VPNs and network security. BNUG is a non-for-profit organization which meets monthly to discuss technical and strategic issues involving computer networking. Membership and monthly meetings are free. The organization is financed through donations and through revenue earned in the presentation of its educational seminars. ----------------------- begin included text ----------------------------- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PRESS CONTACT: Andrew Daitch, President Steve Isenberg, Program Coordinator Boston Network Users Group Boston Network Users Group adaitch@ultranet.com smi@iname.com VIRTUAL PRIVATE NETWORKING AND FIREWALL SEMINAR SCHEDULED --------------------------------------------------------- Boston, MA - January 7, 2002 - The Boston Network Users Group, known for its well-attended annual education seminars, has announced its 2002 program, a full-day intensive workshop on virtual private networks and firewalls. For the past fifteen years, BNUG has sponsored an annual nuts-and-bolts education program for computer professional wishing to improve their technical skills in specific areas of current interest. These programs have become known as the "BNUG Boot Camps" because they pack a large amount of practical information into a short amount of time. According to Andrew Daitch, president of the organization, "This year's topic of VPNs and Firewalls was chosen because so many corporations are allowing access to critical data systems by employees working from their homes or in remote locations. The use of inherently insecure public networks mandates that care be taken not only to protect data in transit, but also to insure that employees' portable or home computer systems are not compromised." BNUG's educational programs are always conducted by experienced professionals working in the specific field. This year's seminar has been designed to cover both theoretical concepts and a practical understanding of the essential elements needed to implement VPN and firewall technology. "The BNUG annual full-day seminar may be the best professional educational bargain in Massachusetts," said Steve Isenberg, BNUG program coordinator. "For $85 dollars, attendees receive over six hours of quality instruction, printed materials, continental breakfast and lunch, and the opportunity to interact with networking experts versed in state-of-the-art technology." Isenberg noted that past BNUG programs attracted not only participants sponsored by their employers, but also a large number of independent professionals who find the high quality and low cost of BNUG programs especially attractive. The program "Defending Your Network: VPNs and Firewalls" will be conducted on Saturday, February 2, 2002 from 8:30AM to 4:00PM at the offices of Novell at 60 Williams Street in the Wellesley Executive Office Park, just off Route 128 Exit 19 in Wellesley. The $85 registration fee is available for those pre-registering. Onsite registration will cost $100 and be subject to available space. Continental breakfast and a light lunch are included. Register for BNUG's VPN and Firewall seminar by sending a check for $85 payable to BNUG, to Boston Network Users Group, 9 Ross Road, Department T, Lexington, MA 02421.
