This month I'm glad to welcome Jeff Miller back to WebTech from his extended stint in France to be our guest speaker on the subject of IBM WebSphere and WebSphere Security. The meeting will be on Tuesday, September 18 at 7:00 pm, and will be held at the IBM SPC in Waltham. Details and directions can be found at our web site at http://www.acm.org/chapters/webtech. I hope to see you there! -- Dan Jacobs, Chairman ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Abstract: All enterprise applications require security. This session will start with a short tutorial on Web security and will then demonstrate how to provide that security using WebSphere Application Server Advanced Edition 4.0 and associated SecureWay software. We will begin with a discussion of the various types of security required by Web-based enterprise applications. Next we'll look at what types of security capabilities WebSphere provides, and review the various architectures available. We'll follow that with a demonstration of WebSphere security in action using IBM SecureWay LDAP Directory Server, showing how the security features are enabled and their effects on access to a sample enterprise application. Then we'll add in Tivoli SecureWay Policy Director. Policy Director is a security application that can centrally manage enterprise security regardless of the type of application requiring it. In the presentation we'll use it as a reverse proxy security server and demonstrate how it can provide user authentication in front of WebSphere. About the speaker: Jeff Miller is a Solution Architect at the IBM e-business Solution Center in La Gaude, France.
