Now he has had a mainstream novel, Dark Harbor House, published by Down East Books. It's the story of an off-beat houseparty on an island of the coast of Maine in the late 1940s. Is this a switch for Tom or is it a continuation of a lifelong way of communicating? Come hear Tom DeMarco talk about "Teaching, Persuading and Storytelling," with readings from Dark Harbor House. About the Speaker: Tom DeMarco Tom DeMarco is a Principal of the Atlantic Systems Guild, a New York and London-based consulting practice. He is the author of seven books on software method and management, including the recent Dorset- House book, The Deadline: A Novel About Project Management. Past titles include Why Does Software Cost So Much? (and Other Puzzles of the Information Age) as well as PEOPLEWARE: Productive Projects and Teams? (with co-author: T. Lister). In 1986 he was named winner of the J.D Warnier Prize for "lifetime contribution to the information sciences." He won the 1999 Stevens Prize for contribution to software methods. He is the author of a mainstream novel, Dark Harbor House, [Down East Books, 2001], and a forthcoming business book called Slack: Getting Past Burnout, Busywork, and the Myth of Total Efficiency, to be published by Random House, Broadway Books Division in 2001.
