From: "richard seltzer" Subject: Chat reminder for Aug. 23, and schedule for coming months Date: Wednesday, August 22, 2001 10:04 AM For Thursdays in July and August, we have been focusing on the needs of Global Learn Day, testing out online discussion capabilities that they need for their upcoming event -- for instance, using PalTalk and telephone. The tests and the discussion have been useful to those interested in distance education or the use of online interaction tools in business. On Thursday, Aug. 23, Bob Zwick will lead us in a wrap-up summary of the chat services we have explored. We can review what we have looked at and discuss how to use these services in a site that plugs them into an existing teaching page like Bob's Web Teacher page at www.cottagemicro.com/webshare/ Bob will also demonstrate some of the little add-on features that he is using. The following week, on Wednesday August 29, at 4 PM at www.horizonlive.com, I'll do a full-blown presentation (including audio and slides) about techniques to help you be found by people using search engines (how to increase your traffic; major design mistakes to avoid; and workarounds when corporate branding and design guidelines prevent you from doing it right). That's a long-time favorite topic of mine; and this will be an opportunity to see how HorizonLive works in lecture mode (slides and voice). I also hope/plan to post an archive of that presentation at my Web site, as a demo of how those archives work. The day after, I plan to hold a regular Thursday chat session on the same topic at my usual chat site (using SiteScape), so people will have opportunities to ask questions, and so we'll have a useful transcript. September 6 -- TBD September 13 -- no chat September 20 -- Impatica with Clifford Layton September 27 -- TAPPED IN MOO with Keiko Schneider October 18 -- Yaga (P2P) with Arnaud Fischer coming soon, date to be determined -- Quicktopic with Dan Kalikow invited Dan Kalikow re: Quicktopic article annotation Please let me know if you have contact names for P2P businesses such as Groove, Hotcomm. Also please let me know your suggestions for other guests and topics. I'm looking for interesting and innovative business models, products, and services. seltzer@samizdat.com We meet on Thursdays from noon to 1 PM Eastern Daylight Time (GMT -4). Transcripts of past chat sessions are available at http://www.samizdat.com/chat.html and related info at http://www.samizdat.com/chat-intro.html Please send email with your follow-on questions and comments, suggestions for other voice chat apps for us to experiment with and for other future topics, and requests to receive email reminders about upcoming sessions. Best wishes.
