I hope to see you there! John Pustaver Director, Software Quality Group of New England Region I Councilor, ASQ Software Division Software Quality Group Meeting Meetings of the Software Quality Group are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at the facilities of Sun Microsystems, Burlington (Driving directions below). MEETING DAY & DATE: Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001 TIME: 6:15 PM HEADLINE: Personal Software Process (PSP) and Team Software Process (TSP). SPEAKER: Jim Over, Senior Member of the Technical Staff, Software Engineering Institute MORE INFO: John Pustaver, 978-443-4254, pustaver@swquality.com LOCATION: Sun Microsystems, Burlington (Driving directions below) DESCRIPTION: What is PSP/TSP? The Personal Software Process (PSP) helps individual engineers improve their performance by bringing discipline to the way they develop software. The PSP shows engineers how to manage the quality of their products and how to make commitments they can meet. It also provides them with the data to justify their plans. The PSP can be applied to many parts of the software development process, including small-program development, requirements definition, document writing, systems test, and maintenance and enhancement of large software systems. The PSP has been shown to substantially improve the estimating and planning ability of engineers while significantly reducing the defects in their products. The Team Software Process (TSP) builds upon the strengths of the PSP and helps integrated engineering teams more effectively develop software-intensive products. This process method addresses many of the current problems of developing software-intensive products and shows teams and their management explicitly how to address them. Jim Over is a senior member of the technical staff at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI). He is in charge of the Team Software/Personal Software Process Program at the SEI. Since joining the SEI in 1987 as a member of the technical staff, he has worked in several technical areas within the SEI Software Process Program including Personal Software Process, Team Software Process, Software Process Definition, and Software Process Modeling. His interests include software engineering, software process, and quality management. Mr. Over is the co-author of several SEI publications on software process definition and improvement. Before joining the SEI, Mr. Over was director of information systems for Pulitzer Publications in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Over has more than twenty years of technical and management experience in software engineering. He attended Northern Illinois University. As a member of SEI^Òs Software Engineering Process Management group, Mr. Over received an award in March 2000 from Boeing Corporation for innovation and leadership in software process improvement.
