From: "richard seltzer" Subject: Chat reminder -- experimenting with voice, Thursday May 10 Date: Tuesday, May 08, 2001 10:33 AM BUSINESS ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB -- Where "word of keystroke" begins Please join us for chat this Thursday, May 10. We're starting a series of experiments with voice applications over the Internet. For the first one, we'll be using Telcopoint's free implementation of HearMe. All you need is your browser and a microphone. There's a tiny plugin that gets quickly and automatically installed the first time you try it. The more of you join in the better. We want to test this out and explore the business opportunities related to it -- distance education, customer service etc. We'd like to push the limits in terms of the number of simultaneous users it can handle from a technical point of view, and also from the human perspective of managing the conversation. We'll start in our regular text chat room, and from there move over to the voice chat -- with the text always available as a backup in case we run into difficulties. These chat sessions take place Thursdays 12 noon-1 PM (US Eastern Daylight Time = GMT -4). To connect, go to http://www.samizdat.com/chat-intro.html. Edited transcripts of past sessions are available at http://www.samizdat.com/chat.html You can also see our upcoming schedule of topics there. Please send email with your follow-on questions and comments, suggestions for future topics, and requests to receive email reminders about upcoming sessions. (Sorry for the six-week hiatus. In that time I wrote a book for John Wiley & Sons -- Web Business Bootcamp -- which will be published later this year). Best wishes.
