Date: Mon, 14 May 2001 12:10:47 -0400 From: Donna Rae Subject: Access Day - 5/16/01 ***Our outgoing email had a few hiccups last week and this just bounced back to me today. The following meeting announcement is for this Wednesday's meeting of Access Day, May 16, 2001, in Waltham.*** Hello Everyone, Hope you all have had a chance to enjoy the wonderful spring (and summer) weather we have been having! Our next session of "MS ACCESS DAY" is scheduled for Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at Microsoft in Waltham, MA. Here are the session details and topics that will be discussed. All events are free and do not require pre-registration. Seating is based on a first come basis... so it pays to be early! Door prizes will be available! Next month's Access Day is scheduled for Wednesday, June 20, 2001. Please mark your calendars. We are in search of User Tips! If you have a USER TIP you would like to share please send it to me at the following address: DonnaR@lunasystems.com and who knows it may just show up on a future announcement! The agenda for next week's "ACCESS DAY" is as follows: ************************************ INTRODUCTION TO ACCESS 9:30 am to 12:00 noon ************************************ "INTRODUCING THE BEGINNING USER TO ACCESS", "Creating Queries to Join, Update and Delete Information" Part II of a multi-part series. Presented by: Dean Serrentino, (d.serrentino@ai-host.net) In part 2 Dean will explore the uses for different query types. He will also be discussing ways to solve common Access problems using Queries. ************************************** MICROSOFT ACCESS 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM ************************************** "USING ACCESS' BUILT-IN FUNCTIONS" Presented by: Dean Serrentino, (d.serrentino@ai-host.net) Access ships with many functions which can be easily used to facilitate many common tasks. In addition to discussing the usage, syntax and implementation of these functions, Dean will explain how to use the Access expression builder to minimize syntax errors when entering functions and other expressions. ***************************************** THE ACCESS TRAUMA CENTER 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM ***************************************** Presented by: John Giuliano, Stone-Crowne Associates, (Stone-Crowne@msn.com) Does Access depress you at times? Do you bang your head against the wall trying to get Access to do things that are common functions in other applications? Does your blood pressure rise trying to format reports to look just like the boss's old favorites? Does the mere thought of opening the code window give you anxiety attacks? We have just what the doctor ordered. -- "The Access Trauma Center" Each month from 4:30 to 5:30 we will solve (or try to solve) problems posed by the audience. The hour will be broken up into different segments: 'Triage' (5 minutes) -- Here we poll the audience for pressing and perplexing problems to solve. (Please no "nice to know" questions. Our goal will be to help the suffering victims of Access.) ***PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR DISKS FOR TRIAGE*** 'Emergency Surgery' (45 minutes) - Here we diagnose the problems and find working solutions. We will build forms, reports, and code modules that demonstrate methods discussed. No cosmetic surgery will be performed here. Emergency surgery is not pretty. Expect ugly forms and reports. If you have a weak stomach, it may be best to retire to the waiting room. Copies of the working solutions and code will be available for any who request such. 'Is The Patient Still Breathing?' (5 minutes) - Q&A dealing with quick verbal solutions to problems that did not require on-screen demonstrations of solutions. 'Doctor, It Hurts When I Do This...' (5 minutes) - A short session on things to watch out for as you develop applications. Each month we will discuss different topics. Did we mention we are also a research facility? In the event of too few questions, a topic vital to the health and well-being of all intermediate level Access Users will be covered. ************************************ MICROSOFT ACCESS: Evening Session User Group Meeting 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM ************************************ "PRE-GAME SHOW" Bring your Access problems and questions! Bend the ear of an experienced Access developer or power user to get "real-life" answers to your "real-life" database problems! ************************************ MICROSOFT ACCESS 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM ************************************ "OPEN FORUM" Stand Up and be heard... general announcements, suggestions, etc. ************************************ MICROSOFT ACCESS Main Meeting - Session I 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM ************************************ "USING WINDOWS 2000 VBSCRIPT WITH ACCESS 2000" Part 1 Presented by: Frank Butash (FrankButash@email.msn.com) VBScript is the new way of implementing Ye Olde Batch Files. Naturally the Script language is much more powerful than the old DOS Batch Command Set however, they are almost as easy to use and offer the developer a simple tool to control resources outside of ACCESS. This presentation introduces the basic instructions and operations of VBScript. As an added feature, we will demonstrate some simple Internet operations using ACCESS. Code samples will be distributed via handout and/or email. ************************************ MICROSOFT ACCESS Main Meeting - Session II 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM ************************************ "ACCESS TIPS, TRICKS AND OTHER RAMBLINGS!" Russ Ganz, Principal of Desktop Access Systems (russganz@mediaone.net) Russ will discuss various tips, techniques and technologies that he has learned 'in the trenches'. **************************************************************************** We are always in search of User Tips to add to the monthly meeting announcement. If you have something of interest and would like to share it....please email your user tip to DonnaR@lunasystems.com. **************************************************************************** ********************************** **************************************************************************** *********************************** ***************************SPECIAL REQUEST********************** Our MS Access User Group is looking for speakers to round out our schedule of presenters for MS Access Day.
