Date: Tue, 13 Mar 2001 19:52:55 -0500 From: Arnold Bilansky <71533.1031@CompuServe.COM> Subject: MS Office Meeting Thursday This message contains an announcement of the next Microsoft Office User Group meeting and in the interest of user group cross-pollination I am including notice of the beginning of a special series by the Exchange User Group. The next meeting of the Greater Boston Microsoft Office User Group is at 7:00pm on Thursday, March 15, at Microsoft, 6th floor, 230 Third Ave., Waltham MA. How much of a Word expert are you? This month we peruse through the list of requirements to pass the Microsoft Word 2000 Microsoft Office User Specialist exam. Our Web page (along with several other user groups) is under www.bostonusergroups.com. ----------------------------------- *********************** *********************** SPECIAL MEETING SPECIAL MEETING *********************** *********************** The Boston Area Exchange Server User Group is proud to present the start of a special series, "Back To The Technology." The first meeting of the series will occur at the March user group meeting on Thursday, March 22, 6:30 - 9:00 PM, MPR1 at Microsoft/Waltham. A special pre-meeting presentation on Windows 2000 Active Directory will occur from 5:00 - 5:15. [See details below.] WHAT IS IT? We will run through actual installations of Exchange Server 2000. We will configure the operating system and the mail server for security, efficiency and other buzzwords ending with "y." On the first night, we will do a standard installation (i.e. fresh installation of a single site onto a Windows 2000 Active Directory domain). At upcoming meetings, we will also demonstrate techniques to migrate from Exchange 5.5 to 2000 in more complex environments. WHY SHOULD I COME? 1: Are you an IT administrator in a Windows environment? Do you have an existing Exchange installation, or want to establish one? Do you want collaboration software rather than using non-integrated applications or even SneakerNet? Then haul your body parts to the meeting. B: Freebies. Yes, there will be give-a-ways including software, mugs and other goodies courtesy of whoever wants to provide them. Yet another good reason to come. Gamma: Food. As usual, we will provide pizza and beverages. This time, we will even try to remember the cups. Come early to get the best pizza toppings. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? Zero. Nada. Nothing. Nilch. Free. Get the idea? WHO'S RUNNING IT? This meeting will be run by those who are most familiar with Exchange Server and who know its ins-and-outs. You! Members of the user group are volunteering to do the discussions and installations, and will do them with honest, non-marketing-hype assessments of the product. This will be a highly interactive presentation. All (reasonable) feedback will be welcome. The first presentation will be run by Lee Benjamin of Xpedior. Lee has worked with Exchange Server since its early days as an envelope with a stamp. BUT GOLLY, BATMAN, I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT WINDOWS 2000 OR ACTIVE DIRECTORY. WILL I BE LOST? We will be having a warm-up session immediately prior to the first installation (5:00 - 6:15 PM). This session will be an introduction to Active Directory. See our website at http://www.ExchangeServerBoston.com for more details. MY COMPANY HAS A GREAT EXCHANGE-RELATED PRODUCT THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO DEMONSTRATE AT YOUR MEETING. IN RETURN FOR THIS WONDERFUL MARKETING OPPORTUNITY, WE WOULD LIKE TO SPONSOR THE PIZZA/BEVERAGES AND MAYBE EVEN MORE GIVEAWAYS. CAN WE DO THIS? Please call me. I am allotting a slot for one vendor presentation. DO I NEED TO MAKE RESERVATIONS? Reservations are not required, but if you do plan to attend either the Win2K or the Exchange presentation, it would be helpful to let me know strictly for capacity-planning purposes. AND FINALLY, WHERE CAN I GET MORE INFORMATION? http://www.ExchangeServerBoston.com and http://www.BostonUserGroups.com Hope to see lots of faces there...
