Please respond ASAP Seating is limited. Hello VFPUG Members! Two weeks ago I spoke at the VFP Users Group with the topic "Web Development and VFP". There was a LOT of interest in doing a day-long seminar on this topic. So, based on the feedback, I have decided to offer an intensive one-day program. The seminar would go way beyond just using VFP and Web Connect for developing web applications. The following topics would be covered: 1.. Intro to HTML: What is a valid HTML page? How is information displayed using HTML? 2.. What do I need for web development? What kind of machine? What Software/utilities are needed on the development machine? 3.. How is a web server configured? How is IIS setup? How is FTP setup? How is terminal services configured? 4.. What is the structure of a VFP/Web Connection application? How is it configured? How are directories setup for web development? 5.. How do you get your site into the search engines? 6.. How do you report on site traffic using the IIS logs? What you'll walk away with: 1.. A copy of my new book from Hentzenwerke publishing "WebRAD" Which covers the above material and then some! 2.. A CD with narrated videos detailing "How to configure IIS", "How to setup FTP access", "How to run site traffic reports" etc. Videos will be in either AVI or MPEG format that can be played as you are performing these steps on your own machine. Great teaching tool! 3.. A real, usable VFP/WC "task management" application. The course will focus on building an APP from scratch. The end result is an app you can put to real use right away. It is a web-based TODO list. Very handy! The course would be held in the Boston area, for a fee of $329, and will be held in the early spring timeframe. (We are currently looking at a site in downtown Boston). The program also includes lunch, and coffee & tea throughout the day.I will cover all the other technologies needed for new web developers to build great web applications. IIS, HTML, FTP are new pieces to the development puzzle. This seminar will save you a couple of months of work by showing how all the new pieces fit together. If you are interested, please send an email to haroldc@webdataserver.com In the body, just state "Reserve me a space". Depending on the response, you will be contacted with the specific date. Based on the meeting, there is a lot of interest in this, so don't delay! Please include your phone number, any questions you may have about the program, and any specific topic you'd like covered in the session. I'll announce a date shortly. Thanks for your time! Harold Chattaway haroldc@webdataserver.com Frequent Speaker at the Boston VFP user group. For sometime is was not clear on what was the best method. With the release of Microsoft's Universal Data Access Components this has all changed. This session gives a brief introduction to MDAC, OLEDB and ADO. Focus will be on the ADO object model and how it can be used to get data to/from Microsoft SQL server. ----------------------------------- *********************************************************** Subject: March Exchange User Group Meeting From: Bradley J. Dinerman *********************** *********************** SPECIAL MEETING SPECIAL MEETING *********************** *********************** The Boston Area Exchange Server User Group is proud to present the start of a special series, "Back To The Technology." The first meeting of the series will occur at the March user group meeting on Thursday, March 22, 6:30 - 9:00 PM, MPR1 at Microsoft/Waltham. A special pre-meeting presentation on Windows 2000 Active Directory will occur from 5:00 - 5:15. [See details below.] WHAT IS IT? We will run through actual installations of Exchange Server 2000. We will configure the operating system and the mail server for security, efficiency and other buzzwords ending with "y." On the first night, we will do a standard installation (i.e. fresh installation of a single site onto a Windows 2000 Active Directory domain). At upcoming meetings, we will also demonstrate techniques to migrate from Exchange 5.5 to 2000 in more complex environments. WHY SHOULD I COME? 1: Are you an IT administrator in a Windows environment? Do you have an existing Exchange installation, or want to establish one? Do you want collaboration software rather than using non-integrated applications or even SneakerNet? Then haul your body parts to the meeting. B: Freebies. Yes, there will be give-a-ways including software, mugs and other goodies courtesy of whoever wants to provide them. Yet another good reason to come. Gamma: Food. As usual, we will provide pizza and beverages. This time, we will even try to remember the cups. Come early to get the best pizza toppings. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? Zero. Nada. Nothing. Nilch. Free. Get the idea? WHO'S RUNNING IT? This meeting will be run by those who are most familiar with Exchange Server and who know its ins-and-outs. You! Members of the user group are volunteering to do the discussions and installations, and will do them with honest, non-marketing-hype assessments of the product. This will be a highly interactive presentation. All (reasonable) feedback will be welcome. The first presentation will be run by Lee Benjamin of Xpedior. Lee has worked with Exchange Server since its early days as an envelope with a stamp. BUT GOLLY, BATMAN, I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT WINDOWS 2000 OR ACTIVE DIRECTORY. WILL I BE LOST? We will be having a warm-up session immediately prior to the first installation (5:00 - 6:15 PM). This session will be an introduction to Active Directory. See our website at http://www.ExchangeServerBoston.com for more details. MY COMPANY HAS A GREAT EXCHANGE-RELATED PRODUCT THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO DEMONSTRATE AT YOUR MEETING. IN RETURN FOR THIS WONDERFUL MARKETING OPPORTUNITY, WE WOULD LIKE TO SPONSOR THE PIZZA/BEVERAGES AND MAYBE EVEN MORE GIVEAWAYS. CAN WE DO THIS? Please call me. I am allotting a slot for one vendor presentation. DO I NEED TO MAKE RESERVATIONS? Reservations are not required, but if you do plan to attend either the Win2K or the Exchange presentation, it would be helpful to let me know strictly for capacity-planning purposes. AND FINALLY, WHERE CAN I GET MORE INFORMATION? http://www.ExchangeServerBoston.com and http://www.BostonUserGroups.com Hope to see lots of faces there...
