From: Subject: NE Domino & Notes SIG meeting - Wed 01/10 * 6:30 pm Date: Tuesday, January 02, 2001 3:06 PM NEW ENGLAND DOMINO & NOTES SIG http://www.seneschal.com/nenotes Meetings held at IBM's Waltham Office IBM Solution Partnership Center - East 404 Wyman Street (NORTH Entrance) Waltham, MA Wednesday, January 10, 2001 6:30-9:15pm TOPIC(s): -- SEARCH and Ye Shall find! (or not) More and more applications move to the web, finding THE document becomes a challenge. Lotus has several search products/ strategies: SearchSite, Extended Search, Domain Search, etc. And as we know the Domino syntax can be challenging for search engines. Additionally, using Javascript and the database property "Web access: Using Javascript when generating pages" can create unexpected results with URLs and consequent links. Richard Seltzer, Independent Internet Consultant, will join us to tell us how search engines really work and more effective search strategies. Last year he had an eye opening presentation when he presented the results of searches against Domino databases. http://doc.altavista.com/business_solutions/search_products/search_intranet/ intranet_intro.shtml -- QUICKPLACE Because QuickPlace breaks down the barriers to working together outside the firewall, and provides secure Web collaboration with suppliers, partners and customers, it has long had a fascination with members of the SIG. Bennan O'Hara, Lotus, MAY be able to present recent advances with QuickPlace. Brennan is away and will be able to confirm as the next day or two. To develop advanced customizations in QuickPlace understanding the internals and how to modify them is essential. Additionally, you can add automation by programming PlaceBots (agents) in LotusScript or Java. We plan to send out another announcement later with more information on his presentation. http://lotus.com/home.nsf/welcome/quickplace AGENDA 6:30 First Speaker -- Brennan O'Hara, QuickPlace, Lotus 7:35 Second Speaker -- Richard Seltzer, Search, Independent Internet marketing consultant and evangelist 8:55 Announcements 9:00 CLINIC - Q&A -- Bring your Lotus Notes & Domino questions and we'll share answers and problems. 9:15 ADJOURNMENT Post meeting confabs continue down the street at Bertucci's NOTE**** Meetings are held on the SECOND WEDNESDAY of the month!
