Date: Thu, 15 Feb 2001 16:24:17 -0500 From: Dan Jacobs Subject: WebTech Tues 2/20 7pm JavaMail API, Waltham The next WebTech meeting will be on Tuesday, February 20, 7pm at the IBM SPC in Waltham. Details and directions are available from the group website at http://www.acm.org/chapters/webtech. This month's meeting will feature a presentation by our own co-chairman, John Zukowski, on using the JavaMail API. I hope to see you there! Abstract: Looking to send and receive Internet mail from your Java servlets or other Java programs? The JavaMail API provides support for sending and retrieving mail through standard mail transport protocols like the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP), and Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME). In addition, the API supports the datastore services as demonstrated by the Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) provider offered from Sun Microsystems. From installation through usage, we'll look at creating mail sessions to send and retrieve mail, including dealing with attachments. About the speaker: John Zukowski is the author of several Java-related books, including the "Definitive Guide to Swing for Java 2" from APress. John is an independent Java consultant, and co-chairman of the WebTech group.
