Following a short presentation by each panelist, they will tackle your questions. Background information on our panelists: Phyllis Berte: As director of Software Engineering Services at Bell Atlantic, Phyllis was responsible for creating a metrics program for the entire IT organization comprised of 3,000 developers across 5 different lines of business. Alex Elentukh: During his 25 years career in software industry Alex held positions in several major corporations. While serving as a QA Director at Intel, Alex led a team of test engineers. At Motorola Alex was part of SQA group deploying the Six Sigma methodology. At Fidelity Systems Alex improved the organizational maturity using the SEI CMM framework. Alex has authored numerous papers on software quality and reliability. He has also taught a QA class at Northeastern University. Ed Prentice: Ed has been playing with computers since the late 60's and is currently the Software Quality Director for MadeToOrder.com. He was one of the co-founders of the Software Engineering Technology Center at Digital Equipment Corporation, a group dedicated to improving the process of software engineering. Ed has held numerous positions managing and consulting in software engineering. He promotes managing by metrics. Barbara Purchia: Barbara is currently Director of Quality and Release Engineering at Rational Software in Lexington. Barbara has over 20 years experience developing high-quality software systems. She has a solid background in software development and management, including implementing successful corporate software process improvement programs. Before moving to Rational, Barbara worked at companies such as Lotus Development Corporation, Applicon/Schlumberger, Entrex/Nixdorf, Raytheon and Kronos. Barbara's background covers many areas including software development, process improvements, project management, and metrics. She has management experience with software development, engineering operations, process improvements, usability, localization, and technical publications. Barbara is a founding member and Vice-Chair of the Boston SPIN. Bill Silver: Bill, a principal in Quality Fractals, has held executive positions leading software testing in several companies, including system vendors, software vendors, and IS/IT in financial companies. The former publisher of Software Quality World magazine, Bill has published articles and taught seminars on software testing and metrics. He has conducted numerous test capability assessments. He has hands-on experience in all phases of software engineering, including: development, testing, and customer service. Driving directions: From 128/95 Take the Rt. 3 exit heading north (not the Middlesex Turnpike exit if you're coming form the south). From Rt. 3N take the first exit (which is Rt. 62 - Bedford Ave). Turn east toward Burlington. Approximately 0.3 mile after the interchange, turn right onto Network Drive, which leads to the campus on your right. Take the second drive off of Network Drive into the Sun parking lot. Park in the visitor lot and enter the lobby opposite the Sun clock tower.
