Date: Mon, 30 Jul 2001 09:29:17 -0700 (PDT) From: NEJUG President Subject: August Meeting Announcement This message is going out to all Nejug Members. Now that the Nejug summer break is over it is about time to start thinking about the August meeting. The next Nejug meeting will be Thursday, August 16th, at the Sun Microsystems Burlington campus at 6pm. We will start the meeting with a brief discussion of the J2EE Architecture and identify some of the major components within the architecture that would be of interest to everyone for the mini topics to be held the first 30 minutes of each meeting. We will then launch into a discussion of Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB). We will start with a brief EJB primer, and then focus on design issues relating to performance and scalability. If time permits, we will then discuss some of the major coding differences between the EJB 1.0 and EJB 1.1 specification. I will be presenting at this meeting. As most of you are aware, my presentations are mostly discussion-oriented, so please, be prepared to participate and relate your experiences to the group with respect to stateful, stateless, and entity bean design and performance issues. That way we can all learn from the group's experience. If you have not already pre-registered for the meeting, please do so at http://www.nejug.org/registration.htm. In other summer news, we are moving our Nejug web site hosting to a different provider. Therefore, any problems viewing the Nejug web site or sending mail to the nejug@apexcgi.com email address should be temporary. Sun Microsystems was gracious enough to send me 300 copies of the Sun Developer Essentials Java Jumpstart 4 CD set to give out at the next meeting. Unless the August meeting turnout is a record breaker, everyone will walk away with a copy of this CD set. Also, Addison-Wesley will be raffling off the latest EJB book. Lastly, The Software Development show group is offering NEJUG members free expo passes to the SD Web Services World Conference & Expo held in Boston, August 27-31st. I will bring the free passes with me to the meeting, and anyone who is interested may have one. As always, the meetings, membership, pizza, and water are all free. I hope to see you at the August meeting!
