Date: Wed, 27 Sep 2000 23:29:44 -0400 (EDT) From: wmr@ici.net Subject: October NEJUG Meeting Presentations As you know, the October 19th NEJUG meeting is about the uses of Java in the "Real World". My idea is to have members come up and give a short (10-15 minute) presentation about how they are using Java technology in the workplace. My goal is to get a variety of projects so that we do not have everyone telling us they are using Servets (ha ha). Please, this is not a forum for demonstrating a product you are selling or developing. Rather, I would like to have members present that are involved in medium to large-scale Java development projects at their company. Also, this is not a forum for sales pitches, recruiting opportunities, or company profiles. It is meant to foster discussion about what Java technologies are being used in the marketplace, member to member. I already have had several offers from members to speak. What I am particulary looking for are those of you who are working on such things as XML Parsing using SAX or DOM, EJB, JINI, Wireless technology, Applet development, or other angles such as eXtreme Programming, heavy use of Design Patterns, or any other interesting uses of Java. I would like to keep each presentation to 10-15 minutes, and to have each speaker adhere to the following agenda: 1. Briefly describe the application 2. Describe the architecture and technology used 3. Discuss issues and/or lessons learned 4. Q&A from members The presentations are VERY informal, and you do not have to mention the company name, project name, or anyhthing that is considered a "trade secret". The meeting is a little more than 3 weeks away, so I would like to line up the speakers as soon as possible. Please respond to this e-mail or call me at (781) 944-0212 if you would like to give a presentation on what you are working on in Java. Thank you, and I hope to see you at the October 19th meeting!
