Time to market, competitive edge, availability are examples of the language of today's business environments. Software Configuration Management is the implementation of practices and principles to manage and control your assets: source code, documentation, changes, and metrics throughout the project life cycle. The implementation of these practices provides reusability, traceability, auditability, and recoverability. The challenge of implementing Software Configuration Management (SCM) is threefold: People, Process and Technology - this includes Sponsorship from Executive Management, marketing, training, organizational alignment including cross-functional teams, development organizations, etc. Tools may vary. Configuration Management is an 'industry challenge' to be embraced and conquered through education, practice and patience. Val Nolen, Senior Systems Consultant is currently working for an insurance company in Massachusetts as Program Manager of Change Management Offfice- within the Software Configuration Management arena. Information Technology has been her profession for 20 years. Serving within business disciplines: Government, Finance, Environment, Health, and Safety(EHS), and Insurance . Val has implemented Configuration Management technology nationally and internationally (Germany and England). She works with Senior management for Sponsorship and development project teams for implementation.
