Date: Tue, 29 Feb 2000 11:04:44 -0500 From: Gail Kahn Subject: March PUF Meeting Announcement Paradox User's Forum Date and Time: Monday, March 6, 6:45 PM Meeting Topic: "Integrating Paradox, Delphi and InterBase Into a Working Application" by Cory Pierson, Sector Software, Inc. Description: An application will be presented showing the combined use of Paradox for Windows, Delphi and the InterBase relational data base. Other interesting aspects of the application are the inclusion of bar code symbols, optical character recognition libraries, modem links, and the use of dual 21" monitors for displaying oversize forms. tBX is an application that began over 10 years ago, growing from a small Turbo Pascal, single user, single function program to a multi-faceted, multi-database, multi-user, multi-location application system! Continually growing, tBX meets the needs of an expanding regional trucking company based in New Hampshire with off-site terminals. Data base maintenance for customers, rating schedules, quotations, image scanning and dispatching is done in the Paradox for Windows environment. Accounting tables use the more robust features of the client/server (C/S) environment with the bridge between the two, local Paradox and C/S InterBase tables, provided by the power of Delphi. Although the capability of Paradox ObjectPal is sometimes limited, its power is not: it can easily call routines that reside outside of itself, either as standalone executables or dynamic link libraries. Using this calling power, tBX is able to do such tasks as control a document scanner, catalog over 500 freight bills daily, and locate and display scanned images, all under the control of a Paradox for Windows application. This application illustrates using the proper tool for the proper task. Paradox for Windows allows easy maintenance of tables, InterBase provides the strength for corporate accounting and Delphi is the industrial glue making it all possible.
