From: John C Shockey Subject: *CAL* MacTechGrp Meeting, January 5, 2000 Date: Tuesday, January 04, 2000 7:28 AM >From the keyboard of our fearless leader, Owen: MactechGrp Meeting January 5, 2000 7:00 PM MIT Building E51-395 Java, West of Krakatoa! Wednesday night's indiscretion will be about that there new fangled programming language Java, specifically Java on the Mac. We'll talk about the language a little bit, about the implementation on the Mac, and we'll also talk about the people who don't show up. So it's in your best interest to show up Wednesday night with New Year's bells on, or else feel your ears burning from 7 to 9 PM. We'll talk about Swing and JFC and other perils of the Java language. Bring your thinking cap and settle down to a couple of hours of frank technical talk; newbies welcome too. [A note from your editor: Though I can't say it with Owen's style, I note that earlier that day Steve Jobs will be giving the keynote at MacWorld San Francisco, at which he will probably make a number of interesting announcements -- all likely to provide some interesting discussion at the MacTechGrp meeting as well.] The usual suspects will be rounded up for exciting Macintosh jabbering, of the sort you love, and we hope you'll participate. Please bring your whole mind, a quart of jabber, and any Macintosh news, questions, or rumors to MIT building E51 Wednesday night, and let there be dancing in the streets, drinking in the saloons and necking in the parlor. Note: The room number is 395, but we often move to a room with a better projector, so 395 is often just a pointer to our real address. I always write the real room number on the blackboard in 395, so just dereference that. You can get a map showing building E51 at http://whereis.mit.edu/bin/map?oldstate=2&off.x=4620&off.y=1640&hi=bld g_e51&zoom.x=89&zoom.y=38 You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant (excepting Alice). The MacTechGrp always meets the first Wednesday of the month. Post no bills.
