Date: Tue, 15 Feb 2000 00:31:01 -0500 From: Paul Izbicki Subject: Boston Media100 User Group Feb 17 meeting Hi everyone, I have been very busily planning the next couple of Boston M100 UG meetings, and there are some interesting new developments. The first is that our usual date has been changed. This month, the Boston M100 User Group meeting will be held at 7:00pm on Thursday, February 17th, at Media100, in Marlborough! Meet and greet at 6:30. As everyone knows, M100 has been heavily promoting a new corporate direction, that of internet streaming. They have been acquiring companies and creating partnerships that can support, enable and leverage their position in that market, and adding product to deliver on the tremendous potential there. Mind you, this is in addition to, and not in replacement of their current product lines, which are still very much under development. We will learn all about what this means to us as clients and end users at the meeting this month. In addition, the Boston UG is helping Media100 by acting as a piloting partner in their own internal media-streaming efforts. We will be archiving the content of this months meeting at M100 HQ, and making it available on the web in progressive download formats within a few days. I will post a URL as soon as it is available. For those of you in New England, and especially in the Boston area, I hope that you will come and participate in the live meeting. The media is currently slated to be made available at dial-up and higher data rates, in Real G2, QT, and Windows Media. The agenda for the Feb. meeting promises to be very interesting. BorisFX will be doing a demo, using the creation of a new animated logo for our BMUG as an example of a work in progress, de-constructing it to show how Boris RED creates a variety of effects that would otherwise require the use of several alternative apps. The finished logo project will be shown at our March 8th meeting. Dan Berube and representatives of the PBS series The Visionaries will show off a new trailer for a streaming program they will debut at a later UG meeting, and M100 will have several presenters to talk about the future, product development, NAB2000, and related issues and to answer questions. In addition, those in attendance will take a tour of the plant, while those viewing the streaming content will be shown a virtual tour. Marianna will appear in a taped segment, as the 17th is her Birthday! Happy Birthday Marianna! I mentioned our March 8th meeting above, I would like to add that this will also take place in Marlborough at M100, and we anticipate it being live-streamed, as well as archived for subsequent download. More details later, but the content will include Marianna live and in person, Terran Interactive will discuss Media Cleaner Pro and streaming issues, and Media100 will present segments on Streaming Video, and choosing a streaming partner. We will also have an email line open to take questions from the field, and Media 100 spokespeople from different divisions, such as marketing, technical publications, and product development. Please mark this meeting on your calendars. If you have any questions, as always, call or email me. Directions follow. cheers, iPaul Directions to Media 100: Mass Pike or alternate to route 495.
