We will NOT go into more advanced subjects during this session but will strive to make sure that all are comfortable with controlling the basic aspects of page layout. ************************************ MICROSOFT ACCESS User Group 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm ************************************ "Tips & Tricks of Programming a Successful User Interface" Presented by: Rick Lunetta of Luna Systems Corporation, Andover, MA (RickL@lunasystems.com) ***************************************** THE ACCESS TRAUMA CENTER 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm ***************************************** Presented by: John Giuliano, Stone-Crowne Associates, Stone-Crowne@msn.com Does Access depress you at times? Do you bang your head against the wall trying to get Access to do things that are common functions in other applications? Does your blood pressure rise trying to format reports to look just like the boss's old favorites? Does the mere thought of opening the code window give you anxiety attacks? We have just what the doctor ordered. -- "The Access Trauma Center" Each month from 4:30 to 5:30 we will solve (or try to solve) problems posed by the audience. The hour will be broken up into different segments: Triage (5 minutes) -- Here we poll the audience for pressing and perplexing problems to solve. (Please no "nice to know" questions. Our goal will be to help the suffering victims of Access.) Emergency Surgery (45 minutes) Here we diagnose the problems and find working solutions. We will build forms, reports, and code modules that demonstrate methods discussed. No cosmetic surgery will be performed here. Emergency surgery is not pretty. Expect ugly forms and reports. If you have a weak stomach, it may be best to retire to the waiting room. Copies of the working solutions and code will be available for any who request such. Is The Patient Still Breathing? (5 minutes) Q&A dealing with quick verbal solutions to problems that did not require on-screen demonstrations of solutions. Doctor, It Hurts When I Do This (5 minutes) A short session on things to watch out for as you develop applications. Each month we will discuss different topics. Did we mention we are also a research facility? In the event of too few questions, a topic vital to the health and well-being of all intermediate level Access Users will be covered. ************************************ MICROSOFT ACCESS User Group 5:30 pm to 6:00 pm ************************************ "Pre-Game Show" ************************************ MICROSOFT ACCESS User Group 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm ************************************ "Introduction to SQL Server" Presented by: Pat Tormey, P.E., Foursquare Solutions, Inc., tormey@foursquare.com The above sessions are subject to change. ********************************************************** * * * * * * FEBRUARY USER TIP * * * * * * ********************************************************** "Using Word to Edit Clip Art Images" sent to us by: Lisa L. Hall, Luna Systems Corporation, lisah@lunasystems.com The clip art that ships with Office 97 or 2000, if you chose to install it, can be a great tool for making any letter, memo, press release or presentation an impressive one. What's more, if you spend a couple of extra minutes editing a pre-existing clip art image you can actually make something very unique! Start by turning on the Drawing toolbar. Click View, Toolbars and select Drawing. Insert a clip art image on your Word document. Click Insert, Picture, Clip Art. Select an image from the ones that are installed. (Note: if you click on the internet icon you can select from the thousands Microsoft has to offer in their Clip Art Image Gallery.) Once the image has been inserted in your document, select it and then click Draw on the Drawing toolbar and select Ungroup. You'll notice that the image is actually made up of a bunch of smaller images or elements. As you click around the image selecting it's various elements, you can change background color, line width or color, size of the element or even delete it if you don't want it in your final image. Using this technique you can combine elements from two different images and make it one. Once you've created the image, I recommend that you use the Re-Group or Group option on the Draw menu on your Drawing toolbar to keep all of the elements in your new image together. If you copy it to the clipboard, you can now use this image in anything!!!!! ************************************************************* * * * * NOTES OF SPECIAL INTEREST * * * * * ************************************************************* >From the desk of Sandy Myers The following is a summary of the NH VBA/Access User Group meeting that met on January 26th at New Hampshire College.
